Dear Friend:
The Thomas Ashton Foundation announces the 12th annual Tommy Ashton 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to be held on April 25 & 26, 2014 at St. Sebastian Parish Center.
From its beginning, the Tournament’s goal was to remember and honor Tommy Ashton, a young man who was killed in the attack on America on September 11, 2001.  In memory of Tommy, the generosity of our valued sponsors, participants, volunteers and spectators has enabled the Tournament to donate over $260,000 to worthwhile charitable organizations and local projects (visit www.thomasashtonfoundation.com for a list of recipients).
This year's proceeds will be donated to worthwhile programs/projects benefiting St. Sebastian Parish and the Woodside community. In addition, a donation will be made to Delete Blood Cancer DKMS, a non-profit organization that leads the fight to delete blood cancer by empowering people to take action, donate bone marrow and save lives.  With over 3 million registered bone marrow donors worldwide, Delete Blood Cancer DKMS is part of the world’s largest bone marrow donor center.  Sadly, several tournament friends and supporters have been affected by blood cancers.  We are proud to support this organization in their honor.
Teams can register online at www.thomasashtonfoundation.com or by mailing a check made payable to The Thomas Ashton Foundation along with the attached registration form to:
Colleen Ashton
48-51 43rd Street Apt 7D
Woodside, NY 11377

Women’s (18 & Over) Division – Saturday, April 26, 2014 starting at 9am
Men’s (21 & Over) Division – Saturday, April 26, 2014 starting at 9am

Final Team Registration Deadline – April 1, 2014
Continue to check the website to see up-to-date lists of all the teams registered for each division.

Attached is a 2014 Sponsor Letter. Anyone who may be interested in being a tournament sponsor will find the different donation levels available. The foundation is a public charity exempt from federal income tax under section 501 (c) 3 of the internal revenue code. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. If you or anyone you know may be interested in being a sponsor, you can make your contribution online at www.thomasashtonfoundation.com or you can mail a check made payable to The Thomas Ashton Foundation to the above address. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

Raffle tickets are available now for the 50/50. The drawing will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the end of the tournament. If you are interested in purchasing raffle tickets and will not be able to attend the tournament, please contact me and I will make arrangements to get them to you. If you’d like to help us sell raffle tickets, please let me know that too and I’ll be happy to send you some.

This year's after party will take place at the Catholic War Veterans Post 870 (39-46 61st Street, Woodside). It begins shortly after the tournament ends on Saturday, April 26th.  It's always a great time and anyone who is 21 & over is welcome to attend.

Thank you for your steadfast support of the Thomas Ashton Foundation and of the tournament over the last 12 years. Without you, this would not be possible. We look forward to seeing you all in April.

A very happy & healthy New Year to you and your family!

Sincerely,
Colleen Ashton

Dear friends and family,
Owen is loved by all of us so very much.  His immense strength at the age of two to battle Aplastic Anemia is an inspiration to me and to so many of you as well.  Owen is in need of a bone marrow transplant and at the moment there is no match in the Bone Marrow Registry. Owen needs our help to find a match.

On Saturday, November 9th from 9AM - 4PM, a bone marrow drive is being held to help find Owen a match.
I am asking for your help in two ways:

The first being that in order for the drive to run we need volunteers to staff it.  There needs to be a minimum of 20 volunteers for the entire duration of the drive to help distribute and collect information from donors.  There will be a brief training for all volunteers the day of the drive.  I know it is a long day but the more donors we get the greater the chance it is that Owen will find his match.  I am asking if it is possible for you to volunteer your time to help make this drive a success.  Any time you are able to donate would be greatly appreciated.  Whether you can commit to a two hour shift or if you would be available to stay the entire day would be a huge help. Feel free to ask your family or friends if they would like to volunteer as well.  The more the better.  Please let me know if you are able to volunteer and at what time.

The second is by spreading the word about the drive and helping to solicit as many donors as possible.  I am attaching a flyer for the event.  Please forward to it as many people as you can, post it in stores, local businesses, social media networks, etc.,.  If anyone has any connection to the media whether it be newspaper, TV or radio please let me know, and if the Hogan family is okay with it, I will provide you with a press release and any other contact info you may need.

For anybody that is not available to attend the drive on the 9th, you can register online by clicking on this link.
Thank you for all your help.  I look forward to hearing from you so that this bone marrow drive can be a success.

Regards,
Vanessa Dellagiovanna

2013-14 WorkOut Schedule[PDF]

Aug. 27, 2013

Dear Swim Team Parents,

We hope you have had a good summer and are enjoying your vacation. We had a very successful summer which included 9 swimmers at Nationals with over 80% best times, many top 10 Metro LC times throughout the season, 34 swimmers at JO's and 1 swimmer attending Zones. The season concluded with a picnic at Jones Beach for over 125 swimmers, parents and friends. The 2013-14 swim year begins on Sunday, Sept. 8 th for everyone. Regular practice time remains the same. An updated group list is on the back of this letter. If you have a question about your child's group please speak to Richie.

Our coaching staff remains intact and is very excited about the upcoming season. It will take a total team effort to capture our 28 th State Championship. We hope everyone is eager to get back to practice and work towards that goal. The meet is in Ithaca March 14-16. Tryouts will be held Sept. 8 th at 9 a.m. and Sept. 9 th & 10 th at 5 p.m. There will be regular practice these days. If you know of anyone interested in joining the swim team, please have them come to the "Y" or get in touch with Richie for further information. Anyone who does not attend 1 of the first 3 practices and does not contact Richie will be considered not returning.

There is a mandatory parents' meeting on Monday, Sept 23 rd at 7 P.M. It is required that at least one parent from each family attend or be represented at this meeting. Important information will be discussed including Y States, the Holiday meet, the SPY meet, fundraising, meet schedule, work contract and work assignments. A medical form and emergency contact sheet have been included with this mailing along with a new registration form that must be turned in to the membership office with your first payment. Please return completed to one of the coaches ASAP. All families are required to participate in the running of our “home” meets. Please check your calendars. If you cannot work at a meet make arrangements now to get or hire someone to work for you, or make arrangements to work extra sessions or petition work committee for special consideration due to unusual circumstances.
